PM: Meeting the people’s needs as important as hitting economic targets
PUTRAJAYA: Budget 2027 has been framed to ensure comfortable living and social justice for all Malaysians through an approach that considers the needs of every group, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the government is not only focusing on macro figures and strategic sectors but also looking into the people’s daily needs, including pet owners, persons with disabilities, gig workers and delivery riders.
“In any planning, the ultimate goal is to ensure a comfortable life for the people. We want a system that can guarantee a comfortable and fair environment for all,” he said in a special interview on Budget 2027, broadcast on RTM last night, Bernama reported.
However, Anwar said Budget 2027 is not the answer to all problems but the government’s measures aim to ease the people’s burden.
He said the government must also understand the problems of rural communities, including padi farmers and fishermen, who still face income constraints and lack access to certain facilities.
“In the city, we do not have padi fields, but we know the people in padi farming areas still face problems, while some coastal fishermen do not have licences.
“There is also the issue of limited fish resources,” he said.
Anwar said the government needs to find a balanced solution so that fishermen can be given some extra room to continue their livelihood without affecting the sustainability of fishery resources.
“All these efforts are part of the agenda to improve living standards and strengthen social justice, not just for one specific group but for all citizens,” he said.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the Madani Economy framework will continue to combine high-impact development aspirations with the people’s basic needs.
He said the approach is important to ensure the country’s economic progress is not only measured through macro achievements but is also felt in the people’s daily lives.
Anwar gave assurance that the government will continue to listen to the people’s views and problems to ensure the policies and allocations framed in Budget 2027 truly meet current needs.
Every detail in the Budget must contribute to a more comfortable, fair and dignified life for all Malaysians, he added.
On Friday, the Prime Minister tabled the Supply Bill (Budget) 2027 with a government allocation of RM459.8bil.
The Budget is supported by RM25bil in investments from government-linked investment companies, RM11bil in public-private investments, and RM14.2bil from federal statutory bodies and Minister of Finance (Incorporated) companies, bringing the total expansionary fiscal package to RM510bil.
This Budget aims to translate resilient economic growth into tangible benefits for the people through better wages, more efficient targeted support, stronger fiscal discipline and aggressive steps towards higher-value industries.
