PETALING JAYA: The Immigration Department views the Budget 2027 announcements as more than just an expansion of facilities, but a responsibility to translate the Government’s commitments into improved performance and service delivery.
Its director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the department welcomed the Government’s commitment to strengthening staff welfare and developing infrastructure to enhance its operational capabilities and service quality.
He expressed appreciation for the announcement of new quarters at the Langkap Immigration Detention Depot in Perak and the Papar Immigration Detention Depot in Sabah.
He said the initiatives reflected the Government’s concern for the welfare of officers entrusted with enforcing the law and managing immigration detainees.
“Staff welfare is not merely about providing facilities, but is fundamental to the readiness and effectiveness of an enforcement organisation.
“Providing more conducive living quarters will not only improve the well-being of officers and their families, but also support their focus and commitment in carrying out their duties and responsibilities,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 10).
The department also welcomed the announcement of a new Immigration office in Keningau, Sabah, which is expected to strengthen infrastructure and improve service delivery for the local community.
The development is expected to provide a more systematic, comfortable and efficient environment for public transactions, in line with the people’s needs and expectations for quality public services.
Zakaria said both initiatives represented strategic investments in strengthening the department’s capacity and organisational capabilities, while balancing staff welfare with the needs of the public.
He added that the department would extend its full cooperation and commitment in coordinating the implementation of the initiatives to ensure their intended benefits were realised to the fullest.
