IPOH: All educational institutions in Kinta Utara, Kinta Selatan and Kuala Kangsar have been ordered to close with immediate effect due to the haze.
Perak Education Department director Zulkafli Mohamed Mokhtar said the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at the CA11A monitoring station in Tasek, Ipoh, reached 180 at 11am yesterday.
He said schools would conduct Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR) to ensure pupils’ education continued during the closure.
Teachers and support staff would also work from home throughout the closure period, subject to current instructions and operational requirements.
“Parents and guardians have been advised to follow official announcements by the Perak Education Department regarding the reopening of schools.
“Parents and guardians are also advised against making assumptions about when schools will reopen and should refer only to official announcements by the department,” he added.
He said district education offices in the affected areas must ensure this announcement is communicated to all schools, educational institutions, teachers, support staff, parents, guardians and pupils in their respective districts.
Zulkafli also urged schools to continue monitoring the situation and prioritise the safety, health and welfare of pupils and the education community.
On Thursday, the Education Ministry announced the closure of schools in Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Rompin.
Johor had already issued a closure order on Wednesday, after haze worsened in the state.
