Police on the hunt for person who hired drug-laden jet

PETALING JAYA: Police are hunting for the client who chartered a private plane seized with around 500kg of drugs in Laos, following the arrest of the aircraft’s owner and three others.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that investigations into the matter were ongoing.

“Investigations showed that the company owned two planes and had offered private jet rentals to interested parties. In this case, the plane was rented for US$49,500 (RM202,375),” he said in a statement.

However, the private plane company – CGT Asia Limited – has since handed over all relevant documents to the authorities.

Its lawyer Kitson Foong said the company has never sanctioned any transport of narcotics or contraband.

Comm Hussein said the NCID is in the midst of identifying the individual who rented the plane.

“Three other people were also arrested at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport for further investigation. All arrested were aged between 30 and 40 years old, and do not have prior police records,” he said.

He previously said the 521kg of drugs seized by Laotian authorities did not originate from Malaysia, as they are believed to have been produced in Laos and destined for Manila, the Philippines.

He added that the jet had departed Subang Airport empty before flying to Luang Prabang.
