Budget 2027: Flood mitigation, river maintenance get RM100mil

PETALING JAYA: The government will allocate RM100mil to build flood retention ponds and carry out river maintenance to reduce flood risks.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the federal and Selangor governments had agreed on five key flood mitigation measures, including assessing the capacity of the Batu and Klang Gates dams to meet needs over the next 30 years.

He said the government would also begin planning a dam project in Lebir, Kelantan, as a long-term solution to flooding and clean water supply issues in the state.

At the same time, construction of the Machang Water Treatment Plant and the replacement of ageing pipes are under way.
