KOTA BARU: A man suspected of stabbing his 44-year-old wife six times in Kampung Padang Lepai, Kadok, on Monday (Oct 5) has one crime and three drug offences on his record, according to police.
Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said preliminary investigations found that a dispute over divorce proceedings is believed to have prompted the 47-year-old suspect's act.
"Based on statements from the victim’s family members obtained after the police report was lodged, the suspect was believed to be unhappy with his wife’s decision to file for divorce.
"This is believed to have triggered his aggressive behaviour, causing him to stab the victim repeatedly, inflicting six wounds to her body and neck," he said when contacted on Thursday (Oct 8).
Comm Yusoff said the victim, a nurse, is receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II and is reported to be in stable condition.
He said the suspect, who surrendered to police after the incident, had been remanded for seven days until Monday (Oct 12) to assist in investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon. – Bernama
