Haze: Slight improvement with fewer areas recording unhealthy API as of 7pm


PETALING JAYA: The haze situation improves slightly in Malaysia, with 36 areas recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at an unhealthy level as of 7pm on Thursday (Oct 8).

According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Segamat, Johor continues to record the highest API reading at 190, followed by Seremban, Negeri Sembilan at 189.

Unhealthy API levels were also recorded in several areas in Selangor, namely Johan Setia (178), Banting (172), Shah Alam (171), Petaling Jaya (166) and Klang (165) with Cheras (170) and Batu Muda in the capital with a reading of 171 and Putrajaya with a reading of 175.

As for Pahang, Rompin recorded 178, with Indera Mahkota at 166 and Balok Baru Kuantan at 164, while Temerloh also recorded an unhealthy API at 154.

In Negeri Sembilan, other areas recording unhealthy API readings include Nilai (183) and Port Dickson (169), while in Melaka, the affected areas were Bukit Rambai (176), Melaka City (176), and Alor Gajah (173).

Meanwhile, in Johor, other affected areas were Kluang (180), Tangkak (176), Pasir Gudang (170), Larkin (169), Batu Pahat (165), Pengerang (156) and Kota Tinggi (153) while in Perak, the affected areas included Tasek Ipoh (160), Pegoh Ipoh (156), Seri Manjung (155), Tanjung Malim (155) and Taiping (152).

Additionally, one area in Terengganu, Kemaman (158), as well as three areas in Penang, namely Minden (154), Seberang Perai (151) and Seberang Jaya (125) and Sungai Petani, Kedah (152), also recorded unhealthy API readings.

A total of 32 areas recorded API readings at the moderate level, while no areas recorded API readings at the good level.

API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; while readings exceeding 300 are at the hazardous level.
