PETALING JAYA: Upskilling and reskilling workers will remain a key focus of the Human Resources Ministry's proposals for Budget 2027, says Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

The Human Resources Minister said this is because Malaysia seeks to ensure its workforce is equipped to take on jobs created by new investments.

“When many from international investment enter Malaysia and create more jobs, we need to make sure that these jobs go to Malaysians first.

“Some companies come here to invest in the country but give jobs to foreigners who are looking for work,” he told reporters during a press conference after launching Minggu MyBakat 2026 on Oct 8.

Budget 2027 will be tabled on Oct 9. It will be the fifth Madani Budget, the second under the 13th Malaysia Plan.

The upcoming Budget 2027 is expected to focus on bread-and-butter issues, rolling out measures addressing living costs and household incomes amidst the strain of the global energy crisis.

In a pre-budget statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted that the M40 group will be in focus this year.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir has also called for higher wages for Malaysians to be made a priority.
