KUCHING: Work on the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project along Jalan Tun Jugah will intensify in the final quarter of this year, leading to the temporary closure of additional lanes.
Project implementor Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd said the partial lane closures, which take effect from 11pm on Wednesday (Oct 7), will facilitate the mobilisation and operation of bored pile and other heavy machinery.
"The bored piling works will form part of the construction of the piers for the elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) guideway, alongside other related works in the area," Sarawak Metro said in a statement.
The elevated guideway will connect the Tun Jugah and Upland ART stations along Jalan Tun Jugah as part of the KUTS Red Line.
Sarawak Metro said sections of Jalan Tun Jugah, including the slip roads to and from Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, will be partially closed during the construction period.
At least one lane will remain open to traffic at the affected sections but motorists should expect slower traffic flow and possible congestion, it said.
"Road users are therefore urged to observe the traffic signage and to use alternative routes whenever possible, particularly during peak periods, and only use the affected stretch of Jalan Tun Jugah when necessary."
Sarawak Metro also said it will closely monitor the construction activities and traffic conditions in the area to ensure minimal disruption to road users.
"We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public's patience and cooperation during the implementation of these necessary construction works," it added.
