PETALING JAYA: A total of 36 areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am on Wednesday (Oct 7), with Johan Setia in Selangor recording the highest reading at 191.
Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and Nilai in Negri Sembilan recording unhealthy levels of 189.
In Johor, areas with unhealthy readings were Batu Pahat (188), Segamat (177), Pasir Gudang (174), Tangkak (169), Larkin (167), Pengerang (165), Kota Tinggi (164) and Kluang (161).
In Selangor, Shah Alam recorded an API reading of 180, also in the unhealthy category, followed by Petaling Jaya (176), Banting (176) and Klang (170).
In Negri Sembilan, Seremban also recorded unhealthy levels of 180 and Port Dickson (169) while in Melaka, areas with unhealthy API reading were Bukit Rambai (176), Bandaraya Melaka (175) and Alor Gajah (173).
Other areas were Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur (177), Temerloh in Pahang (169), Paka in Terengganu (156), Tawau in Sabah (155) and Tanjung Malim in Perak (154) and IPD Serian in Sarawak (152).
The APIMS portal also showed 30 areas with moderate API readings and two areas in Perlis and Kedah showing air quality levels.
API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are hazardous.
