Croc hunter catches 400kg beast, larger one still lurking in Rajang River

SIBU: A massive 4.15m-long crocodile weighing over 400kg has been captured in the Rajang River near Stabau-Salim here but the hunt continues for an even larger reptile lurking in the area.

Licensed crocodile hunter Jeferry Siew Seng Kwong said his four-member team caught the reptile at about 10am after tracking it since September.

"We have been targeting this crocodile since September and finally caught it using a baited hook this morning. But there is an even bigger one out there and we are still tracking it," he said on Wednesday (Oct 7).

This was less than 24 hours after the team returned from a crocodile-catching operation in Batang Igan near Ulu Kampung Kebuaw, Igan.

"We are exhausted after returning from Igan, but luckily today's operation was in Sibu," he said.

The team captured a 4.76m crocodile in the Salim-Stabau area on Sept 14.

Meanwhile, three crocodiles measuring between 2.44m and 4.75m were captured in Batang Igan over the past few days, including a 4.75m reptile weighing about 500kg on Tuesday (Oct 6).

The team also discovered a nest containing about 40 crocodile eggs in Igan.

Siew, who obtained his crocodile hunting licence two years ago, has captured more than 100 crocodiles to date. – Bernama
