Five detained over hit-and-run death of student in Seremban

SEREMBAN: Police have detained a youth believed to be the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of an 18-year-old student.

District OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Yatim Osman said the 18-year-old suspect was detained during an operation in Bandar Seremban Selatan near here early Tuesday (Oct 6).

"The suspect admitted that apart from him, there were four others in the car when the incident happened.

"We managed to detain all four of them, including two women, in follow-up operations in Muadzam Shah and Gambang in Pahang," he said in a statement.

The fatal accident was believed to have happened around 4.50am on Sunday (Oct 4) at km9.7 of the Seremban Port Dickson Highway.

It is understood that the victim was a student at the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute in Pulau Sebang.

He was believed to have been heading to Melaka from Port Dickson when the crash happened.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the car had crashed into the rear of the victim's motorcycle and the occupants later fled the scene.

The victim died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

ACP Mohd Yatim said police have also impounded the suspect's car as part of the investigation.

A urine test on the five returned negative for substance abuse.

"We have obtained an order to remand the driver for two days to assist in the probe," he said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

He appealed to eyewitnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin at 019-4611794 or the district station at 06-6033222 to assist with the investigation.
