Speaker conveys Parliament's condolences to Dr M on Dr Siti Hasmah's passing


KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has conveyed Parliament’s condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family following the recent passing of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

Johari expressed his condolences at the start of the Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday (Oct 5) before proceeding with the day’s business.

"Before proceeding with the next business, I would like to convey, on behalf of the Malaysian Parliament, condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister and member of the House, and his family over the passing of his beloved wife," he said.

Dr Siti Hasmah, who was 100, died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Sept 28.

She was laid to rest at Makam Pahlawan in Presint 20, Putrajaya, later that day following a state funeral, with Dr Mahathir, their children and other family members present.

Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah, who were together for over 70 years, were married on Aug 5, 1956.
