Queen of Malaysia visits family of 16-year-old girl found dead in Yong Peng


BATU PAHAT: Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, visited the family of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal at their home in Kampung Selamat here.

Her Majesty was accompanied by Johor Regent Tunku Ismail’s wife, Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor, on Monday (Oct 5).

The meeting began with the recitation of Surah Yassin and tahlil led by Batu Pahat Kadi Mohd Fauzi Bachok.

Raja Zarith Sofiah also presented a personal contribution to the family to help ease their burden following the death of Irene Sofiya.

Her Majesty also conveyed words of encouragement to Irene Sofiya’s father, Mohd Khairool Faisal Khyar, her grandmother, Jameyah Rabani, and other family members.

The meeting between Raja Zarith Sofiah and the family lasted for almost an hour.

Irene Sofiya was found dead at a secondary school in Yong Peng on Saturday (Oct 3).

She was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple injuries to her head and body, according to Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.

Police have detained a 16-year-old male student and obtained a six-day remand order to assist investigations into the case, which is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
