KUALA LUMPUR: Teenager Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, the schoolgirl who was murdered in Yong Peng, Johor, on Saturday (Oct 3), died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the cause of death was determined following a post-mortem conducted by a forensic pathology specialist at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail in Batu Pahat on Sunday (Oct 4).

"We are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"A 16-year-old male teenager was arrested and a six-day remand order was granted by the magistrate from Oct 4 to 9 to assist investigations," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 5).
Comm Kumar said the school and Education Ministry were giving full cooperation to police in the investigation.
"The investigation will be conducted thoroughly, transparently and professionally, without any element of a cover-up or protecting any party," he said.

He urged the public not to speculate or make comments that could interfere with the investigation or manipulate facts in a manner that could cause concern.
"The motive and cause of the incident are still under investigation," he said.
Under Section 302, a person convicted of murder may be sentenced to death, or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years with at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Irene Sofiya, 16, was found with multiple injuries in the school hall after extra classes on Saturday.
