KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from 25 individuals to assist in investigations into an incident involving Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd at KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 recently.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail (pic) said police have also obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and medical reports to ensure a thorough investigation.
"I urge the public not to be carried away by ongoing speculation," he told a press conference after launching the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Negotiator Handbook at the Bukit Aman Senior Officers' Mess Monday (Oct 5).
Commenting on the deployment of Travel Control Officers (TCO) under the PDRM Special Branch, Mohd Khalid said their official duties include gathering intelligence, conducting intelligence operations, and carrying out field security control.
He said these were routine duties performed by officers and personnel, expressing hope that their deployment would not be misunderstood while a detailed investigation is underway.
On whether standard operating procedures (SOPs) were breached during the incident, Mohd Khalid said this could not yet be determined as further investigation is required.
"Under normal circumstances, it does not breach any SOPs, but certain operational requirements within the TCO building or KLIA may require them to execute their duties within their respective jurisdictions," he said.
He added that police will examine the matter thoroughly before completing the investigation paper to be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) soon.
Meanwhile, two officers involved in the incident are continuing their duties as usual while police investigations proceed.
Media previously reported that Mohd Shuhaily had left it to the government to decide on any action following a viral video showing him reprimanding an individual at KLIA Terminal 1.
Mohd Shuhaily said the matter had been conveyed to the highest levels of government and the Home Ministry, adding that he is prepared to accept any decision with regard to the incident. - Bernama
