Boy held in connection with case


BATU PAHAT: Police have arres­ted a teenage boy in connection with the case involving Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, who was found covered in blood inside a school hall in Yong Peng before being pronounced dead at the scene.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received information from a member of the public at about 5.50pm on Saturday about the teenage girl, who was found in an unconscious state inside the school hall.

“The 16-year-old victim had suffered several injuries to various parts of her head and body before she was confirmed dead at the scene.

“We subsequently arrested a 16-year-old local boy at about 7pm in Yong Peng,” he said in a statement.

Comm Ab Rahaman added that checks found that the suspect had no previous criminal record but the police seized a mobile phone, a set of clothing and a pair of slippers to help with the investigations.

“The suspect has been reman­ded until Oct 9 to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” Comm Ab Rahaman said.

He added that a post-mortem was conducted at Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail to determine the cause of death while the motive and cause of the incident are still being investiga­ted.

Comm Ab Rahaman said members of the public with information related to the case should notify the police.
