Come forward, victims urged

ALOR GAJAH: Victims associated with the case of a freelance speaker who is being investigated for inappropriate conduct should come forward and report to the authorities, says Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister said reports from victims are very important to assist the authorities in conducting investigations and to enable the ministry to take action based on the ongoing processes.

“If we do not have reports from the authorities, it will make things difficult for us to take action. We don’t want this matter to continue in the school environment.

“We want our schools to be truly safe,” she told reporters after attending the handover ceremony of completed projects by the state Public Works Department to the ministry at SM Durian Tunggal here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Also present was Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Commenting further, she said the ministry takes the issue seriously and will not compromise on the safety of children in schools.

“I have already mentioned that all programmes involving the freelance speaker have been immediately halted to allow for the ongoing investigation.

“We take this seriously and urge the children or the victims involved to come forward and make a report.

“All school management and administrators must take this matter seriously to ensure the safety of the students is always a priority,” she added.

On Thursday, Fadhlina directed all school programmes involving a freelance speaker accused of inappropriate behaviour to be immediately stopped to allow for a full investigation.
