KOTA KINABALU: A man was killed after his car skidded off the road and plunged into a drain along Jalan Kawakaan near here on Thursday (Oct 1) evening.

The 27-year-old victim’s body and car were, however, only found on Friday (Oct 2) morning after firemen conducted a water surface search.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department secretariat said an emergency call was received at 5.19pm and a team went to the scene but found nothing.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted together with the police, but it was suspended at 8.10pm because of the weather and poor light.

The operation resumed this morning and the victim was located at 10.28am.

"The man’s body was retrieved some 2km from the reported accident scene," said Lintas fire station chief Noor Sherriyana Bohari.

She said the victim was pronounced dead by medical officials and his body was handed over to the police.

A total of 28 firemen from the Lintas and Penampang stations were involved in the SAR operation.
