Use public transport to Sepang for F1 race weekend, KLIA visitors advised

SEPANG: Visitors heading to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from Oct 2 to 4 are strongly advised to use public transportation, as heavy traffic and limited parking are expected around KL International Airport (KLIA).

In a statement on Thursday (Oct 1), KLIA warned that parking facilities at KLIA Terminal 1 and the KLIA Long Term Car Park are anticipated to reach full capacity early each day.

More than 200,000 spectators are expected to flock to SIC over the three-day race weekend, with daily crowd numbers projected to exceed 100,000.

"Race-goers are strongly advised not to drive to KLIA with the intention of parking there to travel to SIC, and to plan alternative arrangements," the statement read.

Visitors are urged to plan their journeys in advance and use Express Rail Link (ERL) services — including KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit — as well as e-hailing options to reach KLIA Terminals 1 and 2.

To facilitate travel to the track, free shuttle bus services to SIC will operate from KLIA Terminal 2, the KLIA Long Term Car Park, and Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA.

Air passengers travelling via KLIA during the F1 weekend are also reminded to allow extra travel time due to anticipated congestion on major access roads.

The police will enforce daily traffic diversions from 8.00am to 11.00pm throughout the event, with road users urged to follow directed alternative routes.

Travellers and race-goers are encouraged to check the latest travel updates and advisories issued by KLIA, police, and SIC before starting their journey.
