Motorcyclist dies in freak accident after utility pole collapses on him on the road

TAMPIN: A trip to a health clinic turned fatal for a 61-year-old motorcyclist after a telecommunications pole collapsed and struck him in a freak accident near Felda Jelai 3.

District OCPD Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the pole collapsed after a trailer lorry snagged a cable stretched across the road, causing it to fall on the victim.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was heading to the Felda Jelai health clinic when the incident happened at around 9am.

"As he was riding along the stretch, a trailer lorry driven by a 40-year-old man was exiting a T-junction from Felda Jelai 4.

"As the truck pulled out, it inadvertently snagged a cable stretched across the road.

"The impact caused a utility pole on the opposite side of the road to collapse directly onto the passing motorcyclist," he said in a statement.

The victim who sustained severe head injuries was rushed to the Felda Jelai clinic but he died while receiving treatment.

Supt Amiruddien said the trailer lorry driver has been detained to assist in investigations.

The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

He urge eyewitnesses or anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage of the incident to contact the Tampin police at 06-441 2502.
