PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied issuing a notice to declare assets to former human resources minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan’s 12-year-old child.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, at a press conference at the MACC headquarters here, denied claims that the commission had issued the notice during Saravanan’s session on Monday (Sept 28).
“On the issue of the 12-year-old, actually the MACC did not issue any notice to the child. We used our ‘budibicara’ (discretion) and determined that the child would not be served the notice,” he said.
When asked about the need to bring the child to the session, he said that parents have brought their children in the past.
“Perhaps they did not want to leave the child alone at home,” he said.
Previously, the former minister claimed to a news portal that his 12-year-old son was also summoned to receive the asset declaration notice.
He also questioned the need to do so and added that such notices could be given to the parent directly on their behalf.
Saravanan was previously charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with three counts of receiving bribes totalling nearly RM1.09mil in connection with the approval of 1,000 foreign worker quotas for a company in 2022.
