Beloved mum leaves ‘a million memories’

PUTRAJAYA: Mourning the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, her son Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir will forever treasure a million shared memories with her.

“There’s no one last memory. There’s a million memories,” he said as he remembered his late mother.

“I’m very happy that we had so much time to share with her. We’ve had many family gatherings in the last months, weeks, days. So, we had a lot of memories,” he told reporters after his mother’s funeral.

Mokhzani expressed confidence that his father, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would accept his mother’s passing.

“(Father) is okay. But of course today is a very, very extraordinary day... he’ll be okay, God willing. He’ll be okay,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mokhzani’s younger brother Datuk Seri Mukhriz said his late mother had said that she was already prepared to leave before she passed on yesterday.

Mukhriz said his mother had made the remark when he visited her at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Sunday night.

“I was with her last night. At that time, she was at IJN for another ailment. She was in very good spirits, but she told me that she was already prepared to leave us all,” he said.

He said his mother had been admitted to IJN on Saturday, but her condition became critical after she suffered a heart attack at about 8am yesterday.

Mukhriz said his father was deeply saddened by the loss of his life partner of more than 70 years.

He also expressed appreciation and thanks to those who offered their condolences and paid their last respects to his late mother.
