PETALING JAYA: A seven-year-old boy has been left orphaned after his parents were killed on Monday (Sept 28) afternoon when their motorcycle crashed into the rear of an unidentified lorry in Sepang.
The victims, a civil service technician in his 40s and his wife, a private university employee in her 30s, died at the scene due to severe head and leg injuries.
Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said the couple was travelling from Dengkil towards Putrajaya along Jalan Persiaran Timur around 5.00pm when the collision occurred at KM1.5.
"Initial investigations indicate the motorcycle rear-ended a lorry. Based on statements from witnesses at the scene, the lorry fled the area immediately following the collision," ACP Norhizam said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 29).
He added that the male victim possessed a valid motorcycle license.
Police have launched an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death and are searching for the lorry driver.
