KUALA LUMPUR: Security measures at the residence of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Jalan Langgak Duta here remain in place around the clock, says Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus.
“We have provided security from the moment we received the notification and it has continued until today. We will maintain the 24-hour security detail pending further instructions,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Kuala Lumpur Special Branch chief and Dang Wangi OCPD handover ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Monday (Sept 28).
Comm Fadil said the security detail at the residence involved personnel from the Sentul district police headquarters and the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.
On the leadership changes in the Kuala Lumpur police contingent, Comm Fadil said the appointment of SAC Shaidatul Akmar Mohd Noor as the new Kuala Lumpur Special Branch chief would ensure continuity in the force’s leadership.
He added that the Special Branch played an important role in maintaining the security and stability of the capital, particularly amid an increasingly dynamic security landscape.
“The capabilities in intelligence gathering, accuracy of analysis, speed of response and effectiveness in disseminating information must continue to be strengthened,” he said.
Meanwhile, Comm Fadil welcomed the appointment of ACP Ahmad Azwan Amin Nordin as the new Dang Wangi OCPD, as Dang Wangi is an iconic area with its own challenges and needs, making strong leadership, swift action and cooperation among personnel crucial to maintaining public safety and order.
He also expressed his appreciation to ACP Saefuddin @ Mohd Fitri Haji Abdul Rahman and Supt Nuzulan Mohd Din, who previously served in an acting capacity as Kuala Lumpur Special Branch chief and Dang Wangi OCPD, respectively.
On the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who was reported to have died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Monday morning, Comm Fadil expressed his condolences and prayed for her family to be granted strength, as well as for all matters concerning the deceased to be eased.
