PETALING JAYA: Four areas in Johor recorded unhealthy air quality yesterday evening, although readings improved from the afternoon.
The latest Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) readings showed Pasir Gudang recording the highest API at 157, followed by Kota Tinggi at 155, Pengerang at 154 and Larkin Lama at 130.
The readings were lower than those recorded at 4pm, when Pasir Gudang registered 161, Kota Tinggi 159, Pengerang 158 and Larkin Lama 152.
In Sarawak, air quality also improved, with Kuching recording an API of 90 and Sri Aman 87. Serian, which recorded an unhealthy API of 141 at 4pm, was no longer in the unhealthy category.
Air quality in the Klang Valley remained moderate, with Cheras recording 72, Shah Alam 67, Putrajaya 61 and Petaling Jaya 59.
Other areas in Johor remained in the moderate category, including Batu Pahat at 69, Kluang at 65 and Tangkak at 58.
Regionally, the haze continued to affect parts of the southern Asean region, with smoke from fires in parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan contributing to hazy conditions.
Singapore’s National Environment Agency said there was some improvement in the smoke haze on Sunday, but dry conditions persisted over southern Sumatra and parts of Kalimantan, where moderate to dense smoke plumes were observed.
It said dry conditions were expected to persist over southern Sumatra and southern Kalimantan today, while prevailing winds could continue to carry smoke haze across the region.
An API reading of between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy, while readings between 51 and 100 are considered moderate.
