IPOH: Residents of Kampung Selarong, Pengkalan Hulu, about 174km from here, have been advised to remain vigilant following the latest attack by a Malayan tiger on livestock at a village farm and oil palm plantation on Sept 20.
Pengkalan Hulu OCPD Supt Zulkepli Ibrahim said the latest incident was the third reported attack in the area, following two incidents on May 23 and June 11, 2025.
He said the latest incident involved a cow found dead at a farm in Rancangan Pengkalan Hulu, with bite marks on its neck.
"Police received a report on the incident on Sept 23 after the cow’s owner lodged a complaint. Police subsequently informed the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for inspection and further action.
"On Sept 21, Perhilitan officers went to the scene and examined the cow carcass, finding bite marks on its neck believed to have been caused by a Malayan tiger,” he said when contacted by Bernama on Sunday (Sept 27).
Supt Zulkepli said following the first incident in May 2025, Perhilitan had installed a trap in the area for further action, but the tiger had yet to be captured.
He advised the public, particularly residents living or carrying out activities near forests, farms and oil palm plantations, to remain vigilant and prioritise their personal safety.
"Owners and livestock farmers are also asked to take precautions to protect their livestock. Any sighting or suspected presence of wildlife should be reported immediately to the authorities or Perhilitan so that appropriate action can be taken,” he said.- Bernama
