KOTA BARU: A member of the Tumpat district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division was injured after being hit by a car while performing traffic control duties at the Kepulau traffic light intersection in Tumpat on Friday (Sept 25).
Tumpat OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Khairi Shafie said that in the incident, which occurred at 1.25pm, the 22-year-old officer was closing off the road from Morak to Palekbang to give way to the convoy of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V.
The group was on their way to perform Friday prayers and attend the Majlis Jamuan Rakyat in conjunction with Sultan Muhammad V's 57th birthday celebration.
"Preliminary investigations found that a Proton Saga car, driven by a 55-year-old local woman, from the direction of Morak, failed to notice the presence of police officers conducting traffic control duties before hitting the officer," he said in a statement.
ACP Mohd Khairi said the officer sustained external injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to Tumpat Hospital for outpatient treatment.
Meanwhile, the car driver did not suffer any injuries.
"The case is being investigated under Section 79(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and further investigations are ongoing, including efforts to locate dashcam recordings or other recordings that could assist the investigation," he added.
He also reminded all road users to comply with the instructions of police officers performing traffic control duties and to pay full attention to road conditions, especially during special operations and traffic control, to avoid any unwanted incidents. – Bernama
