PUTRAJAYA: A total of 84 undocumented foreigners were detained following a raid at an apartment here, popularly known as “Flat Hijau”.
The operation, dubbed Ops Pintu, was carried out by the Immigration Department based on intelligence gathered from public complaints and information received through social media.
The department said the operation was conducted in two phases, beginning at 11.30am on Thursday (Sept 24), with inspections and enforcement action at business premises in the apartment complex.
The operation continued at 1.30am on Friday (Sept 25), targeting occupants suspected of being undocumented migrants.
"A total of 321 individuals were screened, resulting in the detention of 84 undocumented foreigners comprising 73 men, nine women and two children for further action and investigation.
"The operation followed public complaints and information received through social media, which was subsequently strengthened through intelligence gathering by the department.
“Intelligence found that foreign nationals were residing in the area, with some believed to be conducting business activities there,” the department said in a statement on Friday.
The operation was also a continuation of enforcement efforts at residential areas identified as having a high concentration of foreign nationals, following operations conducted on Sept 9.
Meanwhile, the department said it viewed seriously the issue of undocumented migrants living in groups and activities carried out in violation of immigration laws.
It also urged homeowners and premises operators to ensure that the immigration status of occupants and tenants was valid and complied with the stipulated requirements.
"Members of the public are also encouraged to continue providing information on the presence of undocumented migrants or activities suspected of violating the law.
“The community is the ‘eyes and ears’ and a strategic partner of the Immigration Department in helping identify locations and activities requiring enforcement action,” it added.
