PETALING JAYA: Three areas in Sarawak recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at the unhealthy level as of 7pm on Friday (Sept 25), with the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) recording the highest reading at 168.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, other areas in the state recording unhealthy readings were Samarahan (155) and Kuching (153).
The prevailing haze situation affecting Sarawak earlier led to the eleventh-hour cancellation of the Kuching Marathon, which had been scheduled for this Sunday (Sept 27).
The situation has improved in Sri Aman, which recorded an unhealthy reading earlier in the day but now has a moderate reading of 94.
Meanwhile, 62 other areas nationwide recorded moderate readings, including Bukit Rambai, Melaka (91); Larkin, Johor (85); Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (82); and Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (81).
Only two areas recorded good readings, namely Langkawi, Kedah (39) and Besut, Terengganu (33).
API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are at a hazardous level.
