PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has claimed that the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) notices to the coalition had been issued in bad faith.
Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyiddin Hassan said the coalition was not rejecting the possibility of the notices being mala fide due to political pressure from third parties.
"We urge our members and supporters to remain calm because the matter is being managed.
"We are taking immediate steps through existing legal processes to defend the objective and agenda of Perikatan's constitution," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 24), adding that a gag order was now in effect for all parties from releasing any statements on behalf of the coalition.
"Perikatan will give the relevant information and documents to the people openly and will update the public from time to time," he added.
Perikatan was served with two notices, with one seeking a reply as to why the coalition should not be deregistered, and the other notifying them to suspend all their activities effective Sept 23.
The notices followed a complaint by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, which claimed that it was not included in a Perikatan supreme council meeting held on July 16.
Bersatu also raised the issue of its membership within the coalition to the RoS.
He added that only the coalition chairman and secretary-general are allowed to release statements.
