KOTA BARU:: A Myanmar national detained during 'Ops Taring Wawasan' at the Lembah Sireh Bus Terminal here last night claimed to have paid about RM15,000 to an agent to arrange his journey from Myanmar into Malaysia.
General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the 20-year-old suspect was detained at 10:30pm after appearing suspicious in the bus terminal area.
He stated that the suspect, who identified himself as Lobia Moltas, failed to produce valid identification documents and only presented an A4-sized copy of a document of questionable authenticity.
"The suspect was subsequently taken to the Criminal Investigation Division at the Kota Bharu District Police Headquarters for further action," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 24).
According to Ahmad Radzi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect claimed to have entered Malaysia in 2024 by sea, traveling from Meiktila, Myanmar, to Gelang Patah, Johor-a journey that took approximately eight days.
"The suspect claimed to have paid 7,719,660 kyat, equivalent to about RM15,000 to an agent who managed his travel from Myanmar into Malaysia," he said.
He added that the suspect had subsequently worked as a vehicle body repairer and painter in Kulai, Johor.
"At the time of his arrest, the suspect claimed he was waiting for a bus to return to Johor and stated that his presence in Kelantan was to meet a friend," he said.
Ahmad Radzi said the suspect was detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963. - Bernama
