KUCHING: Police have seized drugs worth RM17.2mil, totalling about 191kg, in two raids in Sarawak.
Bukit Aman management director Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, who is also Sarawak police commissioner, said two men believed to be members of drug distribution syndicates were also arrested.
He said the first raid was conducted at a house here on Sept 11 by the Bukit Aman and Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Departments, where 107.5kg of drugs worth RM12.89mil were seized.
The seizure comprised 50.1kg of MDMA powder, 32.3kg of ketamine, 25kg of liquid MDMA and 0.118kg of Erimin 5 pills.
"Police arrested a local man, 39, during the raid. A urine test on the suspect was positive for methamphetamine.
"The suspect also had five previous criminal records, including one related to drugs," Comm Mohamad Zainal told a press conference at state police headquarters here on Friday (Sept 18).
The second raid was conducted by the Limbang police headquarters' narcotics criminal investigation division at Jalan Medamit, Limbang, on Monday (Sept 14), leading to the seizure of 81.21kg of syabu, 2.06kg of ketamine and 0.8kg of MDMA powder.
The drugs were estimated to be worth RM4.3mil.
Police also seized a four-wheel drive vehicle worth RM35,000 and arrested a 23-year-old man with no prior criminal record.
The vehicle was believed to have been used to transport drugs from Miri to Sabah.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days and police are investigating both cases under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Comm Mohamad Zainal said the seized drugs could have affected an estimated 484,848 people.
"In the Kuching case, the raided house was not a lab but used to process and pack the drugs for distribution around Kuching," he said, adding that the syndicate involved was believed to have been active since July.
