MELAKA: A total of RM128.25mil has been allocated for 24 major development projects in the state, with most expected to be completed by the end of 2026, says Nga Kor Ming.
The Housing and Local Government Minister said the allocation was provided under the 13th Malaysia Plan, particularly Rolling Plan 1 for 2026.
He said the projects would focus on providing quality housing, upgrading public infrastructure and improving the well-being of communities.
"The RM128mil allocation is the ministry's special gesture of care for locals to improve public infrastructure, ensure flats are properly maintained, drains are cleaned and Rumah Mesra Rakyat homes are completed on schedule.
"It also covers non-Muslim houses of worship and other facilities requiring proper maintenance and attention where work on most of these projects will begin immediately," he said at a press conference after the Melaka-level Sentuhan Kasih 4.0 programme at Sri Siantan Apartment in Kampung Solok Musai here on Tuesday (Sept 15).
Nga said the allocation reflected the government's continued commitment to ensuring inclusive and comprehensive development, regardless of race, religion or social background.
He said RM32.8mil would be used by the National Solid Waste Management Department to construct additional cells at the Sungai Udang solid waste disposal site.
Nga said another RM29.6mil was allocated to Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd for the construction of 390 Rumah Mesra Rakyat units.
He also revealed that RM24.9mil was allocated for infrastructure and public amenity projects under the Local Government Department.
The projects, he noted include the construction of the Melaka Sentral wholesale market and the new Jasin market, as well as Madani stalls and food courts.
He said the allocation will also cover the maintenance of public toilets under the clean, attractive and fragrant initiative and slope repair works.
Nga said RM10mil had been set aside for the first phase of the PR1MA Padang Temu affordable housing development.
"Meanwhile, RM8.5mil has been allocated through the Housing Planning Division for the implementation of People's Residency Programme projects in Klebang, Bukit Katil and Paya Rumput here," he said.
Nga said the ministry was also focusing on the upkeep of existing housing schemes, with RM5.8mil allocated to maintain and refurbish 17 projects under the Housing Maintenance Programme and 11 projects under the Malaysian Housing Maintenance Fund throughout the state
He said RM5.4mil had also been provided under the Non-Muslim Houses of Worship Maintenance Fund initiative to assist 35 operators of houses of worship across the state.
"Another RM4mil has been allocated under the Urban Home Repair and New Construction Programme, involving repairs to 125 houses and the construction of 11 new homes," he said.
Nga said the National Landscape Department would receive RM2mil to upgrade and beautify public parks in various districts as part of efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and improve public recreational facilities.
He added that other allocations include RM877,000 for the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department to upgrade the Jalan Kubu station and RM745,000 for development projects in six new villages across the state.
