Remains of Captain Zainol Afiq buried in Senawang


SEREMBAN: The remains of Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30, who died in a helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, Sarawak, were buried at the Forest Height Islamic Cemetery in Senawang near here at about 6.04pm on Sunday (Sept 13).

Funeral prayers for Zainol Afiq were held after Asar prayers at the Bandar Baru Senawang Mosque. His father, Bee Sham Ahmad, led the prayers, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan attended.

Zainol Afiq was one of five victims in the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, Sarawak.

The helicopter crashed and caught fire near the end of the Long Lellang STOLport runway at about 3.40pm on Tuesday.

The crash also claimed the lives of medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31, nurses Jessie Paya Jok, 44, and Debra Moset, 40, and medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin, 33.

Bee Sham, 59, thanked all who supported the family during their five days in Miri, Sarawak, arranging the return of his son's remains.

"Thank you to everyone who came. During our five days there, we did our best to bring home and handle our son's remains so he could be buried here.

"Throughout my life with him, he was a good son. Right from the beginning, his ambition was to become a pilot... he demonstrated a very high commitment to his duties," he told reporters after the funeral prayers at the mosque.

Hundreds of family members, friends, and acquaintances attended the burial to pay their last respects.

The late Zainol Afiq is survived by his wife, Nor Izzati Syamimi Suhaimi, 31, and two children, six-year-old Adelia Sofia and nine-month-old Ian Zayn - Bernama
