PETALING JAYA: Employers will be required to provide and verify the accommodation addresses of their foreign workers when registering them for the mandatory medical examination under a new requirement taking effect on Monday.
The requirement will be implemented through the Foreign Workers Medical Examination System (Fomema) online portal.
Employers and panel agencies will have to review and confirm the accommodation address of each foreign worker before completing the registration.
In a memo, Fomema said the requirement was aimed at ensuring the information submitted through its online system was accurate and up to date.
“Employers and panel agencies must review and confirm each foreign worker’s accommodation address.
“If the address is incorrect or no longer current, it must be updated before registration can proceed,” it added.
The new requirement means employers will not be able to complete the registration process until the worker’s accommodation address has been confirmed or, where necessary, updated.
Fomema also reminded employers and panel agencies to ensure that all information relating to foreign workers, including their accommodation addresses, was current, accurate and complete.
The move comes as the authorities continue to place emphasis on accurate information of foreign workers, particularly their employment and accommodation details.
Fomema is the private company appointed by the Health Ministry to manage the foreign worker medical examination system, which is part of the process for foreign workers seeking to work or continue working in Malaysia.
Under the system, employers and authorised agencies use the Fomema online portal to carry out various administrative procedures related to foreign workers’ medical examinations.
These include registering foreign workers, purchasing medical examination forms and insurance, requesting change of employers and submitting amendments to workers’ information.
The portal also enables users to generate invoices for online registrations, submit refund requests, check medical examination results and monitor the status of appeals.
The accommodation address requirement will therefore form an additional step that employers and panel agencies must complete before a foreign worker’s registration can be finalised.
Fomema said registrations would not be allowed to proceed if the accommodation address had not been confirmed or updated.
Employers are therefore advised to check their foreign workers’ records and ensure that the accommodation information submitted through the portal reflects their current place of residence before starting the registration process.
