We’ll conduct an in-depth review, says Gobind

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP will undertake a thorough assessment on the outcome of the Negri Sembilan polls and work hard to regain the people’s confidence and support, says Gobind Singh Deo (pic).

The party’s national chairman said they acknowledged the defeat of secretary-general Anthony Loke in the Chennah seat in a closely fought contest.

“Loke has served the party and the people with distinction over many years and we are certain he will continue to do so.

“We must and will undertake a thorough assessment of the outcome, listen carefully to the concerns of the people and work hard to regain their confidence and support,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He noted that DAP has faced setbacks before and the message from the electorate is clear.

“We accept this outcome with full humility and respect the mandate that has been given by the people.

“We congratulate those who have been elected to form the next Negri Sembilan state government and hope they will govern responsibly and always place the interests of the people first,” he said.

In Bukit Mertajam, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice-president Adly Zahary said besides strengthening ties within Pakatan Harapan, the party is open to working with like-minded parties that uphold values-based politics.

“We have worked with Muda before, such as in the Melaka state election.

“Going forward, we want to strengthen Pakatan while expanding cooperation with parties that share similar principles, including those with Islamic and Malay-based platforms.

“Our priority is not to seek more seats, but to build a stronger coalition based on shared values,” he told reporters after opening the Penang Amanah Convention.

Adly said any decision on electoral cooperation or seat allocations would be made collectively by Pakatan after internal discussions.

In the Negri Sembilan election, Amanah lost all nine seats it contested, including Klawang, its only incumbent seat.
