PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional and PAS have pledged to serve the people with integrity and responsibility following their victory in the Negri Sembilan election.
Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the coalition’s victory was not merely a recognition from voters but a mandate to serve the rakyat with sincerity and integrity.
He said Barisan’s elected representatives must regard the win as a major responsibility to serve all the people of Negri Sembilan regardless of race, religion or background.
“Barisan views this victory with gratitude and humility.
“The trust given by the people will be translated through a responsible, people-oriented administration based on the principles of stability and progress,” he said in a statement.
Zambry said Barisan would continue to champion moderate politics, strengthen racial unity, uphold good governance and work with its partners to ensure Negri Sembilan remained stable, progressive, inclusive and prosperous for present and future generations.
He expressed appreciation to voters of all communities for their support for Barisan and thanked the coalition’s leadership, component parties, election machinery, volunteers and everyone involved in the state polls.
Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan PAS commissioner Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa said the party was committed to playing an effective role in the new state government and serving as a credible voice for the people.
He said PAS would champion public welfare while defending the interests of religion, race and the state.
“We will carry the people’s voice with integrity at the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly.
“PAS’ victory in seats like Serting, Paroi, Bagan Pinang and Ampangan is a major responsibility that we will carry out with integrity and commitment,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Fairuz also thanked voters across the state for their support and confidence in PAS and Perikatan Nasional during the election.
Barisan and Perikatan secured a majority of the seats in the Negri Sembilan polls on Saturday.
The Election Commission’s official results showed Barisan won 18 of the 36 seats, with Umno securing 16 and MCA two, while Perikatan Nasional won seven seats comprising four by PAS and three by Wawasan.
Pakatan Harapan won the remaining 11 seats, with DAP taking nine and PKR two.
The Barisan-Perikatan alliance now commands a majority in the state assembly, with Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki expressing confidence that the coalition would form the new Negri Sembilan state government.
