SEREMBAN: MCA’s Selangor Youth wing has lodged a police report over a video it says was falsely presented as a party statement during the Negri Sembilan state election campaign.

Selangor MCA Youth deputy chief Jacky Kuai said on Thursday (July 30) that he and the wing’s leadership had lodged the report a day earlier over a clip uploaded by a Facebook account.

He said the video showed Iskandar Puteri Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Ang Kian You handing donations to a school and a local non-governmental organisation at an event organised by the chamber.

He said that in the same video, Ang invited Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Bahau state seat, Chong Fui Ming, on stage for a photograph.

Jacky Kuai said Ang was not an MCA member, and that the event was not a programme or campaign run by MCA or Barisan.

He said Ang had explained on Facebook that the money was a personal donation to his old school.

He said the move to link the Barisan candidate to the donation was irresponsible and intended to mislead the public.

“The spread of such false content not only tarnishes MCA’s good name but could also cause misunderstanding, strain ties between communities and undermine national harmony,” he said.

He said he hoped police would investigate thoroughly and act firmly against anyone who spread false content or incited hatred through digital manipulation.

“Defamation is not freedom of speech. The truth must be upheld and the country’s harmony protected,” he said.

Earlier, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said a Barisan logo had been digitally added to the video before it was labelled as an MCA statement.

Chong Sin Woon said Ang was born and raised in Bahau, where he received his early education.

He said the party would also complain to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the video.

“This action is highly irresponsible and malicious, and is clearly an attempt to create a false impression,” he said.

He said the video should be taken down and an apology should be issued, failing which legal action would be taken.
