PORT DICKSON: The early voting turnout is at 34.26% as of 10am on Tuesday (July 28) for the Negri Sembilan state elections, says the Election Commission (EC).
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the overall turnout today is expected to be 90%.
“We hope to exceed 90% as the early voting turnout at the recent Johor polls achieved 94%.
“People may assume that the police and army turnout during early voting should be at 100% but there are several factors at play as well,” he told reporters after visiting the Port Dickson police headquarters here.
According to Ramlan, there are 16,467 voters eligible for early voting, excluding postal voters.
While there are 22,339 eligible early voters in total, the remainder had applied to exercise their rights through post.
He added that the 38 early voting centres will be closed in stages on Tuesday, with 17 to close at noon, three at 2pm while the remainder will be closed at 5pm.
Polling day for the state polls falls on Aug 1.
