SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan wants the Cabinet to consider disclosing the final Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji (TH) to enable the public, especially its depositors, to know the findings of the inquiry into allegations surrounding the sale of the agency's strategic assets.
Parti Amanah Negara secretary-general Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said this was important as the people, especially its Malay Muslim depositors, had the right to know if there were any wrongdoings in Tabung Haji previously.
"Pakatan is of the view that in the interest of the public, as well as the principles of transparency and accountability, the Cabinet should discuss this matter and decide whether the Tabung Haji RCI report can be disclosed to the public in accordance with the laws in force.
"The people have a right to know the true facts so that all arising issues can be fully clarified based on an official report," he told reporters on Friday (July 24).
In 2022, then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah consented to the setting up of the RCI to investigate Tabung Haji's management and operational issues from 2014 to 2020.
Sultan Abdullah also approved the appointment of six RCI members, chaired by former chief justice Tun Md Raus Sharif.
Faiz said Pakatan's call for the report to be made public was not due to this being the campaigning period for the Negri Sembilan polls.
"It is simple because the public, especially the Malay Muslims, should know what happened to the RCI which was initiated by the then Perikatan Nasional government in 2021.
"The government had also injected RM19bil to save Tabung Haji, and as such, the public should be told the outcome of the RCI," he said.
Faiz said Pakatan was not defending or accusing anyone of any wrongdoing but merely wanted this to be public knowledge.
"I believe even Umno wants to know the outcome of the RCI report," he said, adding that even Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh had urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to make the report public.
