MEDIA professionals took to the streets of Kuching one July evening, chasing not deadlines or stories but fitness and community spirit instead.
They were taking part in the Breaking News Run 2.0 night edition, an event promoting healthy living while strengthening ties between the media fraternity and the public.
Jointly organised by the Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) Sarawak Branch and the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), the event brought together 980 participants on a 7km competitive run or 3km fun run through Kuching’s illuminated city landmarks on July 11.
The 7km race offered cash prizes to the top 10 finishers, while all participants enjoyed a lucky draw.
This year’s edition also featured World Cup-inspired event T-shirts, adding colour and excitement to the evening while creating a festive atmosphere for runners and supporters alike.
CJA Sarawak chairman Nancy Nais said the event was a celebration of unity and healthy living, adding that it was encouraging to see so many participants coming together for a common purpose.
“On behalf of CJA Sarawak, we sincerely thank all our generous sponsors and the organising committee whose generosity and commitment contributed to the success of Breaking News Run 2.0.

“This partnership reflects what can be achieved when the community works together.
“I also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all runners, media colleagues and volunteers who made this event possible. Your support transformed an idea into a memorable community celebration,” she said.
Nancy also hoped more people would take up regular physical activity, reminding all that every step taken towards better health is worth celebrating.
KDJA president Ronnie Teo said the event showcased the power of collaboration between the media fraternity, corporate partners and the public.
“In the media industry, we are always chasing the next deadline and the next breaking news story, but this run is a timely reminder that we must also prioritise our own health.
“By promoting an active, healthy lifestyle through the Breaking News Run, we aim to remind journalists and media practitioners to practise work-life balance and to be mentally and physically equipped to continue serving the community effectively.”
Teo also looked forward to organising more meaningful initiatives with CJA Sarawak to encourage healthy living, strengthen friendships and foster closer engagement between journalists and the communities they serve.
With the encouraging response to this year’s event, the organisers hoped that Breaking News Run will continue to grow into one of Kuching’s signature community running events, inspiring people of all ages to pursue a healthier and more active lifestyle.
