Woman crushed to death by falling oil palm tree


KLUANG: A 37-year-old local woman was killed after being crushed by a falling oil palm tree at Ladang Kekayaan in Paloh, near here, on Saturday (July 18) afternoon.

The victim was identified as Safiah Abdul Rasid, who was trapped beneath the tree when the incident occurred at around 4pm.

Kluang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander PBK II Yusma Yuzaini said the department received an emergency call at 4.01pm before dispatching eight firefighters with a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit to the scene.

He said the operations team found the victim pinned under the tree upon arrival and immediately launched a rescue operation using specialised equipment with assistance from an excavator.

"The victim was extricated from beneath the tree before she was pronounced dead at the scene by a Health Ministry medical officer," he said in a statement. – Bernama
