ALOR GAJAH: School authorities at a secondary school here lodged a police report after a Form One student allegedly threatened his schoolmates with a penknife.
Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said the incident occurred at about 2.50pm on Thursday during a student appreciation programme in the school’s hall.
He said the incident was believed to have been triggered by repeated provocation against the student during the event.
Based on preliminary investigations, Supt Ahmad said two students, aged 13 and 14, had allegedly thrown ice cubes at the 13-year-old before he took a penknife from his pencil case and chased one of them for about 50m towards the school’s surau.
Two other students who witnessed the incident also fled, fearing they would become targets, he added.
“The entire incident was recorded by the school’s CCTV cameras.
“However, a teacher acted quickly and managed to calm the student, persuading him to surrender the penknife,” he said yesterday.
Supt Ahmad said no injuries were reported.
He added that the Form One student has been receiving psychiatric treatment at Hospital Melaka, with his latest follow-up appointment on June 3.
The school was also aware of his medical condition.
He said the student’s family was immediately summoned to the school before taking him home.
Investigations also revealed that all the students involved had disciplinary records dating back to the beginning of the school year, he said.
A teacher lodged a police report and the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
