Year Five pupil killed in motorcycle crash in Terengganu

JERTIH: A Year Five student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car at Jalan Kota Baru-Kuala Terengganu, near Kampung Bukit Kenak here last night.

In the 11.30pm incident, Wan Julaini Wan Noh, 11, from Kampung Pulau Panjang, died at the scene due to severe injuries.

Besut district police chief Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahman said initial investigations found that the motorcycle ridden by the boy had broken down and was being towed by another motorcycle at the time of the incident.

"A car travelling in the same direction struck the rear of the victim’s motorcycle, while the motorcycle towing it was not involved in the collision,” he said in a statement today.

He said the strong impact caused the victim to be dragged for about 50 metres, and he died at the scene due to severe head and bodily injuries.

The victim’s body was sent to Besut Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old female driver of the car was not injured.

Supt Mohd Rozaime said a urine test on the driver came back negative for drugs, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

At the same time, he issued a stern reminder to parents and guardians not to allow minors to ride motorcycles on the road, as it is a legal offence and poses a risk of fatal accidents. - Bernama
