PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was granted an audience by Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

“I had an audience with the Johor Regent in Kuala Lumpur today (yesterday) in a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

“The audience has provided us with a good opportunity to exchange views and discuss matters related to the welfare and well-being of the rakyat, particularly those in Johor,” he said.

The Prime Minister said discussions with the Johor Regent also revolved around current development and the government’s continuous planning in spearheading economic growth and state development.

“Both of us are also in agreement to continue maintaining good ties on top of strengthening close cooperation between the federal and Johor governments,” Anwar said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Johor Regent confirmed granting the Prime Minister an audience in a Facebook post, saying that it was held at Istana Bukit Tunku.

“Thank you, Prime Minister, for your concern regarding the close relations between the Federal and Johor Governments, for the wellbeing of the rakyat,” decreed His Royal Highness.

On Sunday, Tunku Ismail defended the state government’s performance, saying he personally monitors the administration and ensures it carries out its responsibilities.

He slammed those claiming that the state government had failed to take care of Johor, calling on the Federal Government to play a bigger role in supporting the state’s development and safeguarding the welfare of its people.

He also renewed his call for Putrajaya to return 25% of the tax revenue generated by the state.
