Ahmad Man delays joining Wawasan due to anti-hopping law

PETALING JAYA: Suspended Perak Bersatu assemblyman Ahmad Man has admitted that the anti-hopping law has put the brakes on his intention to join Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan).

The Kuala Sepetang assemblyman said that joining another political party at this time could expose him to penalties under the anti-hopping law.

"I really have no choice but to wait. If I join any party now, I will be penalised under the anti-hopping law.

"So, I am still bound by it and am waiting to be sacked," he told Sinar Harian on Friday (June 19) when asked about his political future following the announcement of Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin to join Wawasan after being sacked by Bersatu.

He said that while still carrying out his duties as the assemblyman under Bersatu, he is now operating alongside the Reset movement, which he described as not being a political party.

Ahmad, who is the former Bukit Gantang Bersatu division chief, said he resigned from the post before being suspended as he disagreed with the party leader’s actions against several leaders and members.

“A day or two after I resigned as division chief, all of my committee members, including those at the division and branch levels, as well as the members who were with me, also left Bersatu.

"Today, even though I am still bound by the anti-party hopping act and cannot join any other party, the Bersatu members who have left will, God willing, precede me in joining Wawasan together," he said.

He claimed that the response towards Wawasan among former Bersatu members in Bukit Gantang has been highly encouraging, causing Bersatu's organisational structure in the area to become increasingly weak.

On Thursday, Zainol Fadzi reportedly announced his entry into Warisan four months after being expelled from Bersatu.
