KUCHING: Over 3,000 participants in 99 contingents will take part in the annual Niti Daun parade this Saturday (June 20).
Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah said the parade was a highlight of the state-level Gawai celebration.
"The preparations are going well, and it will be an interesting event as part of the Dayaks' contribution to the development of a harmonious and peaceful Sarawak.
"We will display our traditions and culture during this event," he told a press conference after chairing a meeting on the celebration here on Monday (June 15).
Uggah said contingents from Sabah will join the parade, which will start at the Tun Jugah Building and proceed to the Kuching Waterfront.
He said a state Gawai dinner will be held on Sunday (June 21) with Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar as the guest of honour.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg are also expected to attend.
The dinner will feature a theatre performance by the Dayak Cultural Foundation titled "From Ruai to the World", narrating the Dayak community's advancement from traditional farming to actively participating in the modern global landscape.
Other performers include Sarawakian singers Rickie Andrewson, Phoebe Chloe Tay and Rozzie Mila and young dancer Dion Das Louis, also known as the "Little Bornean Birdie".
