Man kills love rival after alleged rape of ex-girlfriend

IPOH: A 25-year-old daycare teacher was raped by her former boyfriend, who then went on to kill her current partner after a car chase.

This was revealed by Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, who said a 30-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday in a case believed to be motivated by jealousy.

He was caught in Perlis, a day after stabbing the woman’s new love in Perak.

Prior to slaying his love rival, the cleaner met with the woman to discuss relationship issues, said Comm Mohd Alwi.

“He saw her at about 9am on Tuesday near a padi field at Jalan Trans Perak (in Perak Tengah) to discuss their situation,” said Comm Mohd Alwi.

He said the former couple remained by the padi field until 5am the next day, after which the suspect walked the woman to his car.

“He then threatened her before raping her in his car,” Comm Mohd Alwi told a press conference at the state police officers’ mess hall here yesterday.

At that point, he said the woman’s current boyfriend arrived and confronted the suspect, who fled.

“The suspect sped off in his vehicle, which led to a car chase,” he added.

Comm Mohd Alwi said the woman’s current boyfriend – who was a contractor – crashed his car into the suspect’s vehicle and blocked his path.

“Both of them then got down from their vehicles.

“The suspect is believed to have then attacked and stabbed the victim in the abdomen before fleeing in the victim’s car and abandoning it at Persiaran Batu Gajah Perdana in Batu Gajah,” he added.

Comm Mohd Alwi said the case was solved within 24 hours when the suspect was arrested at the Perlis Sentral Bus Terminal in Kangar at 3.45pm on Thursday, following a tip-off.

“We also seized a knife that had been dumped in a dustbin in Kangar,” he added.

The murder was allegedly committed at about 5am on Wednesday, and the victim was later pronounced dead at a clinic in Kampung Gajah.

Following the arrest, Comm Mohd Alwi said the suspect has been detained under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“The case is being investigated under Sections 302 and 376 of the Penal Code for murder and rape, respectively,” he said.

He added that if found guilty, the suspect could face the death penalty or up to 40 years in jail and caning.
