Malaysia strengthens digital education with first AI-powered classroom

KANGAR: The country’s digital education transformation is being strengthened through the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Powered Classroom initiative under the Pre-Google Reference Institution (PGRI) programme, with Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Perlis near here being the first school in the country to be selected to implement the initiative.

Education Ministry deputy secretary-general (Planning and Development) Datuk Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian (pic) said the initiative is being implemented in collaboration with various parties, including Google Malaysia.

"Perlis is the first state in Malaysia to implement the initiative involving SMK Kuala Perlis, thus paving the way for the expansion of the AI-based learning model to other schools nationwide,” he said after the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail graced and officiated the launch of the AI-Powered Classroom initiative at SMK Kuala Perlis.

Also in attendance was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Megat Sany said its successful implementation in Perlis would be a benchmark for the expansion of the programme to other schools in stages, with another 27 schools identified for the next phase before expanding to 800 schools over the next seven years.

He said that schools wishing to participate in the programme would need to undergo an evaluation process and meet the criteria established by Google.- Bernama
